When we talk about homelessness and poverty, we usually associate them with the post colonial countries that are underdeveloped or still developing. But you’d be surprised to know how big a problem it has become in the United States of America, the self-proclaimed greatest country of the world. A viral video shows the reality of streets of the US where homeless people and junkies have been living with their whole family.
The video is claimed to be of the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The historically rich city appears extremely filthy with trash everywhere on the sidewalks along with people. Drug addiction is allegedly the root cause of the issue that has forced hundreds of people onto the streets. It is disheartening to see families with young kids living on the streets.
This is not the problem of Philadelphia alone. We have seen similar situations in Los Angeles and other cities as well. The economic model that the USA projects as the best for the world has clearly failed and it is rather driving the country backwards. The West has always been able to find scapegoats for their biggest failures. It will be interesting to find out who they will blame when they address this new rising problem.
