Kamala Harris Wants More Indian-Americans In US Politics!

Kamala Harris

In recent years, there has been a significant rise in the number of Indian-Americans occupying political space in the United States of America. However, vice-president Kamala Harris still believes that it is not enough. Speaking at a summit of Indian Americans, she urged more people of Indian origin to run for elected offices in the US.

At the Desis Decide summit, she said that the number of Indians in the political space is not reflective of the size of the growing population. The summit was organized by Indian American Impact, which is famous for funding Indian Americans who run for elected offices across the country.

The Indian Americans are one of the most important communities in the country contributing hugely to the US economy. Currently there are only 5 Indian Americans who are elected to the US Congress.

The peak representation of the Indian community in US politics was visible in the last several months in which two Indian Americans were contesting against former President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination for presidential election.

Coming from the vice-president herself, the call for Indian Americans to run for elections might motivate many young people who already have role models like Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley.
