We all have seen angry factory and dock workers quitting over wage related issues. Strikes are also held regularly to protest and demand better wages and conditions. Often the city administration has to deploy the police force to control the situation. But what if it was the police department that went rogue? In a bizarre case of mass resignation, the entire Goodhue police department quit over their hourly wage.
The incident took place in Goodhue County, Minnesota where the entire police force, along with the chief resigned because they were paid only $22 per hour. Now the city has no law enforcement department working for it. Even though there was a 5% increase in pay, the officers were not happy about it.
The neighborhood police departments had been offering wages as high as $30 per hour and this became the main reason behind the mass exodus of the force. This has put the city in a tough spot as they currently have no police force to protect them. The County Sheriff’s office will be managing law enforcement until a final decision has been made.
