A shocking incident unfolded on Christmas Day in 2021 when Jaswant Singh Chail, a British Sikh intruder armed with a crossbow, attempted to attack Queen Elizabeth II. In a recent court hearing, it was revealed that Chail drew inspiration from the “Star Wars” franchise for his sinister plot.
Chail, a 21-year-old who identified himself as an “Indian Sikh,” aimed to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that took place in 1919 in Amritsar, India. In a social media video that surfaced following his arrest, he expressed his desire to “assassinate” the Queen. His motive was fueled by a combination of seeking revenge for the massacre and his fascination with the Sith Lords from the “Star Wars” series, according to the prosecution.
Chail, who applied for positions in various defense and security agencies, including the Ministry of Defence Police, British Army, Royal Marines, Royal Navy, and Grenadier Guards, wanted to get close to the royal family. His intention was to create a new empire by dismantling the remnants of the British Empire in the UK, with the Queen as a symbolic figurehead.
While Chail’s actions were alarming, the officers who apprehended him displayed remarkable bravery and professionalism. The Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command, in collaboration with the Royal Household and local police forces, ensured the safety of those residing, working, or visiting royal residences across the country.
Chail has pleaded guilty to charges under the UK’s Treason Act, 1842, as well as offenses related to threats to kill and possession of an offensive weapon. He is awaiting sentencing, facing the consequences of his disturbing plot against the late Queen.
