Indian national and Kent State University student Dileep Kumar Bungatavula tragically lost his life in a road accident in Ohio on August 7, 2026.
The accident reportedly occurred on Interstate 480 in Macedonia, near Cleveland. Preliminary information suggests that a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction crossed the median and collided with the car Dileep was driving. Others involved in the crash reportedly suffered serious injuries, while authorities continue to investigate the incident.
Dileep was originally from Jettivaripalli in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district. He had moved to the United States to pursue higher education at Kent State University and build a promising career. His father is reportedly a farmer, and the sudden tragedy has left his family devastated.
The Consulate General of India in New York expressed its condolences and confirmed that officials are in contact with Dileep’s family.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the untimely demise of Mr. Dileep Kumar Bungatavula,” the Consulate said in a statement, adding that it is extending all possible assistance to the grieving family.
Community members have also begun efforts to support Dileep’s family during this difficult time and help ease the financial burden resulting from his sudden death.
