In Canada, 23-year-old Andhra Pradesh student Polukonda Lenin Naga Kumar perished while swimming in Silver Falls. The tragedy occurred at about 1 AM Indian time on Tuesday. Naga Kumar, from Chintaguntapalem near Machilipatnam, resided in Thunder Bay, Ontario, with three roommates.
Nutan Kumar, Naga Kumar’s uncle, says Silver Falls is 40 kilometers from their home. His roommate said he escaped, but Naga Kumar drowned. In August 2021, Naga Kumar went to Canada for a Master of Science at Lakehead University. After graduating, he worked part-time as a restaurant supervisor while looking for a job.
Machilipatnam Lok Sabha member V Balashowry wrote to Union Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar following Naga Kumar’s death. Balashowry wrote to the minister to help repatriate Naga Kumar’s body to India.
He identified Naga Kumar and encouraged the Indian Embassy in Canada to arrange for his body’s return to India. Naga Kumar’s family and friends are heartbroken by the loss of a bright student.
