From 2013 to 2023, the number of Indians in California increased by more than 300,000, making them one of the fastest-growing ethnic groups.
By 2023, California had an estimated 925,000 Indians and Indian Americans, a nearly 50% increase from 620,000 in 2013. In contrast, California’s overall population grew by only 2%.

Indian communities have particularly grown in the Bay Area, with counties like San Joaquin and San Francisco seeing significant increases.
This growth is largely due to job opportunities in tech and biotech industries, which attract Indian immigrants. Births and international migration also contribute to the population rise.

Indian Americans also play a role in the rapid expansion of cities like Dublin and San Ramon, drawn by good schools, safe neighborhoods, and the area’s proximity to Silicon Valley.
The Indian community is becoming more active in cultural programs, such as Bollywood dances and robotics clubs, as they settle in California.
