doctor-fraud

An Indian-American doctor put his noble profession to shame when he conducted false surgeries on his patients and exploited the US Healthcare system.

Dr. Rajesh Bindal, the 53-year-old neurosurgeon, was accused of misusing the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) and duping insurance money from multiple federal employees. He allegedly taped the electro-acupuncture devices behind patients’ ears in the pretense of conducting complex surgical procedures.

An independent investigation was conducted by agencies that stressed the importance of protecting patients from such practices. Bindal is now facing a fine of $2 million for the fake bills.

It is discouraging to hear that Bindal, who was already among the highest-paid neuro specialists, decided to break his sacred oath and cheated on his patients. “He chose personal greed over integrity and patient care,” US attorney Alamdar S Hamdani, one of the officials conducting the investigation, said.

FEHBP is one of the largest employer-sponsored healthcare programs in the US, serving millions of federal employees. Such scams from high-class professionals jeopardize these programs and put the integrity of the healthcare ecosystem in question.

While there are no legal proceedings as of now, Bindal could be dragged to court for his crime. A multiple-party investigation is still ongoing.
