H-1B Techies Getting Exploited

In many US companies, H-1B techies are being quietly overloaded as the country faces one of its worst times for immigrants. The added workload is not because they’re the only ones who can do the job, but because they’re the least likely to say “no.”

When your visa status depends on your job, there’s sadly not much you can do about it either—that’s the unspoken power dynamic.

Skilled professionals are being handed extra tasks, asked to work weekends, and messaged during off hours, all while their managers know they won’t push back out of fear.

While H-1B techies have been exploited like this for years, the US government cracking down on immigrants is making things worse. All of this as political leaders continue to call the H-1B system a “scam,” demanding stricter rules and reduced visas.

And instead of protecting their techies, US firms are only making their lives harder. If the system and employers keep pushing their strict policies it can have massive adverse effects on their economy as well.




There’s only so much silent exploitation that a person can face, eventually forcing H-1B holders to consider different options.
