Why Are Indian Students Dropping Out Of UK Uni?

UK Indian Students

According to recent figures from the Institutions and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), the number of Indian students applying to British institutions for courses this year is declining. While total overseas applications increased by 0.7%, Indian applications to British institutions decreased by 4%.

The cause for this reduction is ascribed to a variety of factors, including the Rishi Sunak-led government’s continuous assessments of the Graduate Route visa, which permits graduates to stay and get job experience for a minimum of two years after graduation. Even said, applications from China increased by 3%, although on a lower base of candidates.

Some overseas students may be discouraged from enrolling in British institutions by the UK’s education policy, which includes recent limits on bringing relatives on government-funded scholarships. Amit Tawari, president of the Indian National Students Union Association (INSU), expressed concern that British students are treated as migrants while studying in the United Kingdom.

Despite these hurdles, UCAS assists students in navigating the application process. The total number of international undergraduate students climbed by 0.7%, however Nigerians and Indians showed a negative trend. Higher education in the United Kingdom remains popular across the world, with China, Turkey, and Canada leading the way.
