After Disney, Netflix Defends AI ?

Netflix Defends AI

The last four years have seen a major change in Hollywood, with studio budget cuts and a walkout by writers and actors last year.

The manner that everyone makes money has changed since streaming entered the film and television industries. Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, related the transition to utilising AI to the way his company managed moving away from renting out DVDs.

According to him, legacy players typically face difficulty in trying to preserve their legacy enterprises during times of significant change. When Netflix began shipping DVDs 25 years ago, it was already in a transitional industry, understanding that tangible media would not be the way of the future.

Sarandos, though, is now softening his stance on AI, saying that it is a logical development in the creative industry. He thinks AI will improve and streamline the work of authors, directors, and editors.

Sarandos believes that people will always be more valuable than artificial intelligence (AI), and that those who are adept at using AI could eventually replace human creatives. He thinks AI won’t take the role of excellent script or performance, just as volume stages didn’t replace on-location filming.
