Alia Bhatt’s ‘Poacher’: Kerala’s Wildlife Thriller

Poacher

When Alia Bhatt announced that she was going to back a new project titled “Poacher,” excitement grew among fans. Later, its trailer and reactions at the Sundance Film Festival even generated good hype for the show. “Poacher” was released today in theaters.

The show is being appreciated by a lot of people, while some are calling it a masterpiece. The show explores the massive smuggling that takes place in the forests of Kerala. The story begins with disturbing clips of dead elephants, hinting at the depth of the issue. There is a huge elephant, and the hunters are behind it in order to extract the tusks.

However, police are trying to prevent the smuggling, but whether they will succeed forms the basic plot of the show. Richie Mehta, the writer-director inspired by a real-life poaching incident in 2013-15, has made the story its strongest point. He conducted thorough research on the issue before filming, and the shots and dialogues all seem genuine and realistic.

The point where the show falters is that while it hooks you in the beginning episodes, there is a relative slump in the middle episodes. Too much creativity induced in the climax can make it look overdramatic, but overall, it works as a thriller series serving its cause. “Poacher,” starring Nimisha Sajayan, Roshan Mathew, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Kani Kusruti, Ranjitha Menon, and Maala Parvathi, was released today on Prime Video.
