A controversial movie that came out in 2023 and became a sensation was “The Kerala Story,” based on the lives of women in Kerala who are forced to convert to Islam and join ISIS. The movie was directed by Sudipto Sen and starred Adah Sharma in the lead role.
It sparked discussions around its subject and issues. Despite being a blockbuster, grossing a whopping 288 crores worldwide, it faced criticism for altering facts, such as changing numbers. This controversy stirred anger among people about the makers’ intentions.
While some appreciated the film for addressing a serious issue, others criticized it. Despite its box office success, no OTT platform initially bought the rights to premiere the movie. After several months, it is finally set to premiere on Zee5 on February 16, 2024, coincidentally alongside another surprise blockbuster based on real events, “The Kashmir Files.”
