Dhanush Fails OTT Revival: Fans Done with Toxic Love?

Dhanush in Tere Ishq Mein

Dhanush’s attempt at an OTT revival with Tere Ishq Mein appears to have fallen flat. Many viewers feel audiences are now growing tired of toxic love stories.

Most people still remember Raanjhanaa, the film that marked Dhanush’s Hindi debut. The film was widely loved, and its songs became massive hits.

Dhanush later returned with Tere Ishq Mein, co-starring Kriti Sanon. The film released in theatres some time ago but failed to recreate the magic of Raanjhanaa.

Instead, the film faced heavy criticism for portraying toxic love and unhealthy relationships. Many viewers found its themes difficult to accept and emotionally exhausting.

Recently, the makers released Tere Ishq Mein on Netflix, hoping it might find a second life on OTT. However, the response has remained largely negative.

While theatre and OTT audiences often differ in taste, the film has not connected strongly with digital viewers either. Several reactions on X were harsh and dismissive.

One user said the film nearly gave her “brain damage,” while another simply called it a bad movie. These reactions quickly gained traction online.

A small section of viewers defended the film, describing it as rooted and grounded. However, they were clearly in the minority.

For many viewers, patience wore out within the first few minutes. The storytelling failed to hold attention, leading to early drop-offs.

Films like Raanjhanaa, Kabir Singh, and Animal may have succeeded despite controversial themes. But that does not guarantee every similar drama will work with audiences.

It appears the makers of Tere Ishq Mein misread changing viewer preferences. The film’s poor response on OTT suggests audiences are now less forgiving of toxic romance narratives.
