India has always been their largest market, and these losses have had a considerable impact on Disney. Consequently, they are now contemplating selling the Indian branch of Hotstar.
The US studio is actively seeking potential buyers for their regional Hotstar business. This deal would encompass a combination of assets, including sports rights and the regional streaming service.
Disney has recently faced stiff competition from Viacom18, who acquired major streaming rights, making them appear as strong contenders to acquire the Hotstar business. The company that ousted Hotstar from its streaming dominance is now looking to acquire the business. Reports suggest that Disney has initiated discussions with them regarding a potential purchase.
