Today was a big day for SRK fans, as the makers of “Dunki” released the movie as a surprise gift on Netflix. It has become a rage, with people talking about it and proving once again why Shahrukh Khan is the Badshah of Bollywood.
“Dunki” is his third solo movie of SRK in 2023. The first two movies, “Pathan” and “Jawan,” broke earth-shattering numbers at the box office, reestablishing SRK’s lost charm over the past four years. These movies also broke many OTT records upon premiering, raising expectations for “Dunki.” Unfortunately, its box office run was hampered due to the clash with “Salaar,” and it could only mint 470 Crores worldwide. While not a bad number, it pales in comparison to the success of “Pathan” and “Jawan.”
This outcome was somewhat expected since “Dunki” is not an event film that would set screens on fire with its action but rather a heartfelt story of Indians wanting to go abroad, written and directed by Rajkumar Hirani.
The movie was also labeled as a disappointment for not being Hirani’s best work, as expectations were sky-high for this much-awaited SRK-Hirani collaboration.
However, this surprise OTT release has once again proven that the power of Shahrukh Khan is not going to fade anytime soon. Reports suggest record-breaking numbers for the movie on Netflix India, with people complaining about server crashes due to a huge number of viewers since its midnight release on February 15th.
