Cinema serves as a significant part of Indian pop culture, with a history spanning more than 100 years. It has become ingrained in our cultural fabric.
To protect the heritage of Indian cinema, a commendable initiative has been undertaken by the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), serving as the custodian of our film heritage, which is set to celebrate its 60th year. The organization originated from the FTII campus and meticulously documents movies that have left an impact on us over time, featuring photographs, stories, anecdotes, books, and more.
It is said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to expand the criteria of NFAI as part of a film restoration project. The call is out to all members of the film fraternity to contribute to the organization by participating in the digitization and restoration of film reels, enriching its library.
This potential expansion could be a significant step for an industry like Indian cinema, allowing people to study every small step taken by the industry on the road to advancement. We would love to hear your thoughts on this.
