HBO’s provocative and controversial series, ‘The Idol’ has been canceled after an excess of negative popularity.
The series that stars Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd in lead roles premiered in June this year. Revolving around the life of a rising pop star (Depp) who wants to become the greatest and sexiest pop star in America. Her ongoing tour got canceled due to a nervous breakdown. Here comes Tedros (The Weeknd), a nightclub owner and head of a cult, who reignites her passion. And, their complicated relationship begins.
Ever since the production of the show began last year, it had been making headlines and for the wrong reasons. First the original director, Amy Seimetz left the show, which led to several reshoots. Then there were reports about an extremely toxic work environment on the set.
At last, there was a huge dip in viewership by the time the final episode aired. Even the reviews from both audience and the critics were not so encouraging for HBO to renew the show for a second season.
