HIT 3 vs Retro OTT Reviews

HIT 3 starring Nani and Retro starring Suriya, premiered on Netflix recently. While both films had some buzz during their theatrical release, their OTT response has been disappointing.

Viewers are reacting with mixed to negative feedback, with both films being seen as routine thrillers that lack strong engagement.

HIT 3 had a decent start at the box office, thanks to Nani’s credibility and some well-executed action scenes. But later fizzled out.

Though it’s trending on Netflix, many feel it lacks the tension and excitement expected from a crime thriller. The film failed to sustain OTT audience interest due to a weak villain, predictable narration, and logic-defying plot points.

Audiences who enjoyed the theatrical experience of HIT 3 for its flashy visuals, intense action, and cinematic scale found the OTT version lacking. Without the immersive atmosphere of a big screen and surround sound, the film’s impact feels diluted.

What once left some impact in theatres now comes across as flat and routine, proving that certain high-octane elements don’t translate well while watching on TV, laptop, or mobile. The thrill simply doesn’t hit the same on OTT.

On the other hand, Retro, which was released in theatres and on Netflix on the same day, received even poorer feedback. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film was expected to be a smart, stylish thriller.

But most viewers found it confusing, slow, and lacking a clear storyline. Except for a few fans who liked Subbaraj’s style, the general audience seems thoroughly disappointed.

While HIT 3 at least managed some box office returns, Retro struggled even in that aspect. However, both have ended up in the same position on OTT—viewers labeling them as forgettable thrillers.

Their performance is a reminder that star power or hype alone can’t save a film if the content doesn’t connect.
