The battle between JioCinema and Hotstar is as exciting as India vs. Australia, with both continuously responding to each other. JioCinema initiated the trend of free streaming with events like the IPL and Football WC.
Now, as JioCinema tries to expand its sports streaming offerings, Hotstar had to respond. However, their response lacks innovation as they too have opted for free streaming.
Earlier this week, JioCinema launched an advertisement promoting free streaming of the India vs. Australia 3-match ODI series, likely prompting Hotstar’s announcement. Hotstar has already let people know that they will be allowing users to watch the Men’s World Cup 2023 for free.
And if you think that’s the end of it, you couldn’t be more wrong. They’re extending this grace to their entertainment side as well, giving viewers opportunities to stream blockbuster films such as Brahmāstra and Vikram, and originals such as Freddy.
Now, being the largest streaming platform in India, this step is nothing but a feast for the fans. Services like JioCinema took these steps out of necessity, to attract viewers, but Hotstar already has a big enough user base. This already brings smiles to the faces of the fans, and as the WC will be hosted in the nation, what else would a sports fan ever want now?
