Huge BO Potential Film Why on OTT? Fans Attack Netflix

Ikka Netflix teaser poster

Netflix has released the first teaser of its upcoming legal thriller Ikka, starring Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna. Fans are excited as this marks their first collaboration since Border, which released 29 years ago and became a massive success.

According to the official synopsis, the story follows an honest lawyer played by Sunny Deol. He is forced to defend a murder accused portrayed by Akshaye Khanna. Both characters share a troubled past as the lawyer once destroyed the other man’s career.

The teaser features an intense courtroom sequence that reminds viewers of Sunny Deol’s iconic role in Damini. While the mood is serious and gripping, the teaser avoids revealing the core conflict. The cast also includes Dia Mirza, Tillotama Shome and Sanjeeda Shaikh.

Many fans online feel the film deserves a theatrical release instead of a direct OTT premiere. They believe that with two big stars, the film should have arrived on the big screen. Some feel Netflix limits its potential reach.

However, a theatre release may carry risks. Sunny Deol recently featured in Border 2 and has major projects like Gabru and Ramayana: Part 1 lined up this year. Akshaye Khanna is also enjoying success with Dhurandhar and another upcoming comedy.

With both actors appearing in multiple films, audience fatigue could impact box office performance. In that sense, a Netflix release seems practical. Ikka can attract steady viewership without pressure of ticket sales or comparisons.
