Jiiva’s film Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil (TTT), directed by Nithish Sahadev, released in theatres on January 15th as a Pongal special. The film received positive responses and emerged as a major box office success.
TTT enjoyed strong pre-release buzz due to Nithish Sahadev’s earlier Malayalam hit Falimy. The film also benefited from weak competition, as other Pongal releases failed to perform well at the box office.
Movies like Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi and Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar ended up as disasters. This helped TTT gain a clear advantage and emerge as the Pongal winner in Kollywood.
After its theatrical run, TTT began streaming on Netflix on February 12th. The film was released in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Despite its strong box office performance, the OTT response has been mixed. Many viewers are calling the film overrated after watching it online.
Several OTT viewers have shared reviews on social media. They felt the first half was entertaining, but the second half disappointed them due to cringeworthy scenes.
While some comedy portions were appreciated, many felt the humour was outdated. Viewers also compared it unfavourably to Nithish Sahadev’s Falimy.
Some audiences noted that compared to recent Kollywood releases, TTT was still somewhat convincing. However, they felt it did not qualify as a great film overall.
With divided reactions from OTT audiences, it remains to be seen how Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil performs on the streaming platform in the coming days.
