In their new raucous comedy, Zac Efron seeks John Cena despite being discovered lying for years. On Friday, Amazon MGM Studios released the initial trailer for Ricky Stanicky, in which 3 childhood best friends, Dean, JT, and Wes (Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler), create an imaginary buddy named Ricky Stanicky as a cover story to get out of things.
The movie’s original logline is as follows: When 3 childhood best friends perform a failed prank, they create the fictitious Ricky Stanicky to get themselves out of trouble! Twenty years after making this ‘buddy,’ Dean, JT, and Wes (Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler) continue to use the nonexistent Ricky as an excuse for their juvenile behavior.
When their husbands and partners get suspicious and demand to see the legendary Mr. Stanicky, the guilty trio hires washed-up actor and bawdy celebrity lookalike “Rock Hard” Rod (John Cena) to bring him to life. But when Rod takes his job of a lifetime too far, they start to wish they hadn’t created Ricky in the first place.
Ricky Stanicky is directed by Peter Farrelly, who previously collaborated with Efron, 36, on the 2022 film The Most Famous Beer Run Ever. The Academy Award winner also worked on Green Book, Hall Pass, and Dumb and Dumber. Ricky Stanicky’s ensemble also features William H. Macy, Jeff Ross, Lex Scott Davis, and Anja Savcic.
