Hollywood, the epicenter of global entertainment industry, is currently showing a new trend of acquiring rights for movies beyond their borders, and as has been done by the household name of Lionsgate Entertainment Corporation as they have made the headlines for a massive move of partnering with Dharma Production for their upcoming film ‘Kill’, acquiring the rights for its U.K and North American rights.
Kill recently made its Premiere at the auspicious Toronto Film Festival, and it didn’t take much time for it to reach the 2nd spot at the PCA rankings at Midnight Madness. This collaboration is a massive move as never before has an Indian Production house partnered with a Hollywood Studio for theatrical releases in both, U.K and North America for a mainstream Hindi language film and above all for the studio partnering up to be Lionsgate, the creators of famous titles like ‘American Psycho’, ‘Saw’ and ‘Hunger Games’.
The movie is a shared project between Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment. The movie follows a passenger on a train to New Delhi which soon becomes a combat battleground as a pair of commandos face an army of invading bandits. Lauren Bixby, senior vice president, Acquisitions and Co-Productions said that American audiences have become more open than ever to bold filmmaking from all corners of the world further adding that they’ve been astounded by ‘Kill’ and dazzled by the artistry of director Bhat. The film is all set to hit theatres in 2024 and in Bixby’s words, “We’re confident that Kill will find an audience ready to delight in this film’s exuberant mayhem.”
