Karisma Kapoor is set to take on one of the most challenging roles of her career with Brown. The newly released trailer suggests that the ZEE5 series will offer a gripping psychological thriller filled with mystery, emotional conflict, and dark themes.
In the series, Karisma Kapoor plays Rita Brown, a Kolkata police officer investigating the murder of a teenager. While she works to solve the case, she is also forced to confront her own personal struggles and emotional wounds.
The trailer presents Rita as a deeply troubled character dealing with trauma and inner conflict. She relies on alcohol, cigarettes, and medication while trying to remain focused on an investigation that becomes increasingly disturbing with every new discovery.
Rita joins forces with her junior officer Arjun Sinha, played by Surya Sharma. Together, they venture into the darker side of Kolkata as they search for answers behind a complex and unsettling crime.
What starts as a murder investigation gradually develops into a larger mystery. The trailer hints at the presence of a serial killer whose actions may be linked to a twisted belief system. The situation becomes even more intense when another murder shocks the city.
Directed by Abhinay Deo, Brown is based on Abheek Barua’s novel City of Death. The series appears to combine a gritty crime narrative with a detailed exploration of its lead character’s psychological journey.
While the investigation drives the plot forward, Rita’s mental and emotional struggles remain central to the story. The trailer indicates that both aspects will receive equal importance throughout the series.
Jisshu Sengupta plays a psychiatrist who appears to hold key information connected to the case. Soni Razdan portrays Rita’s mother, while the cast also includes Ajinkya Deo, KK Raina, and Helen. The series additionally marks the acting debut of singer Shaan.
Brown has already gained international recognition. It became the only Indian web series selected for the Berlinale Series Market Selects at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2023, drawing attention from global audiences.
With its dark atmosphere, layered characters, and psychological themes, Brown aims to offer a different experience from conventional crime dramas. The series is scheduled to premiere on ZEE5 on June 5.
