Old Emotions, New Stars: Can Season 2 Survive OTT?

Smriti Irani returns in Kyunki Saas Bhi 2 on TV

The return of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi with Season 2 and Smriti Irani reprising her iconic role as Tulsi Virani is a massive moment for Indian television nostalgia. The show starts with everything you’d expect — from Ganpati chants to the Gayatri Mantra — bringing the Virani household back into focus.

Visually, the production is bigger, and Tulsi now interacts with modern gadgets like laptops. But despite these updates, Kyunki Saas Bhi 2 feels stuck in the past. The dialogues and storyline have barely evolved. In trying to preserve the nostalgia, the makers seem to have missed the memo that today’s competition is not other serials, but web series on OTT.

New characters are present but lack impact. The emotional scenes echo the original, but they don’t surprise or move viewers the same way anymore. The familiar “kitchen politics” dynamic still dominates, which feels outdated for the streaming-first generation.

While the emotional core is intact and long-time fans may enjoy the callbacks, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Season 2 hasn’t yet delivered anything fresh enough to stand tall in the current digital content era. For now, it’s a show full of feelings, but low on relevance.
