Netflix Isn’t The Most Watched Streaming Platform In US

Netflix January Calendar

According to new Nielsen statistics released on Tuesday, YouTube was the most-watched streaming platform in January for the 12th consecutive month. 8.6% of television viewership, YouTube surpassed Netflix (7.9%) to take the top place.

With Amazon Prime Video trailing far behind in third place at only 2.8%, no other streaming service was even close to the dominant pair. This significant achievement solidifies YouTube’s dominance in American living rooms as the streaming provider.

Viewer preferences are the reason for YouTube’s popularity; 61% of Gen Z prefers user-generated material to other forms. Although the site now offers more high-quality films and television shows, such as the popular sitcom “Cobra Kai,” user-generated content still makes up the majority of its content.

According to YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, users want access to live sports events, the BBC, Khan Academy, and NikkieTutorials all in one location. According to the most recent Nielsen data, on-demand streaming is replacing linear cable and broadcast television.

In January, streaming surpassed cable with a record 36% of all TV viewing, surpassing its 27.9% share for the second time. One of the main reasons YouTube has been successful is the transition from broadcast television and linear cable to on-demand streaming services.
