Oppenheimer is set to release in India and worldwide on the 21st of July and fans can’t keep calm. However the excitement around the release is also turning into frustration and anger as the advance booking of tickets have commenced. Fans are not happy about the extremely high pricing of the tickets and feel cheated by the cinema houses.
Premium theatres like PVR select and INOX Insignia are asking between ₹1400-₹2000 for a single ticket. Even the regular and premium seats at normal theatres are going to cost you a fortune with tickets priced around ₹400-₹750. Adding to it the cost of traveling and food, Oppenheimer is going to be a very costly affair for an individual and even more so if you were planning a movie date.
People have compared buying a ticket to the movie as buying a year long subscription of any good OTT platform and might even skip the theatrical release for the OTT premier. As the cost of tickets have made the news, more and more people have started reconsidering their decision to watch it in a theatre. This could have a huge blow on the success of the film in India. Some states in India like Tamil Nadu and Kerala have set an upper cap on movie ticket prices and these states have evidently performed well at box office as compared to others. Despite this fact, cinema houses are taking a risk with the high priced tickets and this could backfire.
Fans have expressed their disappointment and anger at social media in humorous ways.
High priced tickets may also push viewers to the film’s direct competition Barbie, which has significantly lower priced tickets.
