One half of the global sensation has fallen into the oblivion of OTT platforms, while the other half is still standing strong in terms of theatrical screenings. “Barbie” is already available for renting on the Prime Video store and other platforms, whereas the drama about the father of the atom bomb has different plans.
The movie will not be available for OTT users anytime soon, as the makers are determined to continue its theatrical run. In terms of the IMAX experience, fans are still opting for the 70mm print, which will remain in demand for some time.
The producer has clearly stated that the film won’t be available until late November. Though it might be a test of patience for home viewers, this situation is a win-win scenario for cinema in general.
The film is undergoing a 16-week theatrical run, breaking the norm of 45-day windows. As the makers have mentioned, some reels have been overused, resulting in deterioration in condition. Whatever reels are in good condition will now be used for award campaigns and the re-release of the film.
As of now, the movie has grossed a sum of $900 million at the box office, making it the second highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. The possibilities are timid indeed, as Joker reached a total of $1.06 billion, but the lack of certainty makes it even more intriguing.
