While the box office hasn’t found much success in 2025 so far, the OTT realm has been on a roll with successive hits and highly acclaimed series.
Several series with great hype and excitement might have fumbled, but numerous shows with medium expectations have excelled for viewers with their gripping plot and storyline.
The crime thriller genre has shone so far as Netflix’s Black Warrant remains one of the most thrilling shows so far this year. Zahan Kapoor and Rahul Bhat garnered huge praise from the audience for their terrific performances in the series.
Another thriller this year was Prime Video’s Paatal Lok Season 2 featuring Jaideep Ahlawat in prominent roles. The series showcases an investigation of a high profile murder case which leads into several other mysteries.
A similar murder mystery plot was also seen in SonyLiv’s Black, White and Gray, where a high-profile case of serial killings is unfolded, and what makes it even more brutal is that it is based on true events.
Prime Video’s Khauf starring Monika Panwar and Rajat Kapoor in prominent roles also created a lot of buzz given its psychological and horror genre, leaving a huge impact on the audience.
What made these shows extraordinary was the long term storytelling it offered which is extremely rare in Indian shows. Where shows like Panchayat also offer a similar long term plot, it lacks thrill and suspense.
Indian viewers have been thriving on thrillers so far, and these shows have made the OTT realm a much better place than the Bollywood box office has been in 2025. It remains to be seen how the upcoming shows maintain this trajectory over the OTT.
