After the release of “Kaala,” Disney+ Hotstar is back with the launch of a new show called “Sultan of Delhi.” The show is set in the 1960s gangster era and has garnered significant attention due to its intriguing topic.
The trailer immerses us in the world of the 1960s with its beautiful sets and extravagant costumes. The concept of a rags-to-riches story is not new, but the way it is presented is what truly matters. This show is helmed by Milan Luthria, who has had an oscillating career. On one hand, he has delivered movies like “Once Upon a Time in Mumbai,” but he has also directed a misstep like “Baadshaho.” Clearly, dealing with such a topic poses a risk, making the show somewhat less promising.
Additionally, the cast involved in the show is quite interesting. The series is led by Tahir Raj Bhasin, known for his role as the antagonist in “Mardaani,” and whom we loved in “Chhichhore.” It also features the gorgeous Mouni Roy and the brilliant actress Anupriya Goenka, who has a very intriguing role to play.
The trailer gives off a vibe quite similar to Anurag Kashyap’s “Bombay Velvet.” Hopefully, Milan Luthria won’t repeat the mistake made by Anurag, i.e., focusing too much on grandeur and missing the emotional core of the series. “Sultan of Delhi” is set to premiere on October 13th, exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.
