Take Care of Maya is a deeply emotional film. It evokes anger, frustration, and tears, encapsulating the heart-wrenching nature of the situation.
The story, set in 2015 when Maya, the ten-year-old daughter of Jack and Beata Kowalski, starts experiencing various health issues. Despite visiting multiple doctors, no clear diagnosis was initially found. Eventually Maya is diagnosed with advanced Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) and is prescribed Ketamine for treatment. The treatment initially shows positive results, but she experiences a relapse later on.

Maya is taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, where medical professionals suspect her mother of abusing her and diagnose it as Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. Maya is placed under state custody, leading the Kowalskis to fight to regain custody of their daughter.
It depicts the Kowalski family’s challenges after a misdiagnosis and their journey to reunite and stay strong during this difficult period brings devastating consequences. The documentary captivates viewers from the beginning with its extraordinary and unbelievable incident, leaving them in awe and questioning its plausibility.
