The romantic drama Telusu Kada, starring Siddhu Jonnalagadda, Raashii Khanna, and Srinidhi Shetty, was released on October 17 with decent expectations. However, the film failed big time at the box office. Despite its fresh storyline and appealing cast, it could not attract audiences as expected. It ended up as a massive box office disaster, with losses reportedly touching 70 percent.
Directed as a new-age love story, the movie received mixed responses from critics and viewers alike. Due to poor theatrical performance, it is now heading to its digital release.
The film’s OTT rights were acquired by Netflix. Initially, the streaming was scheduled to begin on November 23. However, the latest reports suggest that the producers are planning to release it earlier, possibly on November 13, four weeks after its theatrical debut.
Telusu Kada will have a four-week theatrical window, which has now become the norm in the industry. Many recent Telugu films with poor box office results have quickly moved to OTT within two weeks also. In this case, the makers have still managed to maintain a respectable four-week gap.
With its Netflix release, the film may find a new audience among digital viewers who missed it in theatres. Siddhu took a bold decision to work in a film like this. The theatrical audience rejected it, but whether the OTT audience will prove his choice was not so wrong remains to be seen. During its theatrical release, many felt the film was more suited for OTT viewers. Whether it gains better appreciation on OTT will be known soon.
