The 15th is not that far but the success can be if you talk about DC and Warner Bros’ new movie, The Flash. If we talk about the Indian market, the movie is destined to fail in every aspect possible. DC has always maintained a hardcore fan base but will they be able to save the sinking ship of the Old DC?
The biggest calamity for the movie is the release of Adipurush. Now in recent times, very few movies have gained half as much hype as Adipurush has gained. Let’s be honest, can it even compete with the biggest mythological move in entertainment history?
Promotion is a big deal for any movie and DC movies are the worst examples of that. In the West, some people will see the movie for the appearance of Michael Keaton but in India, it will be a very rare scene. WB failed to promote it in the Indian market by any means and it’s not that they suck at it, just look at Barbie, you can’t promote any movie better than that. They don’t have the same impact as Disney in global scenery which is backfiring.
Most screens will be booked for Adipurush and Mid June will be a busy month for theaters as Maidaan will also be released. So Flash will gain a limited amount of exposure. The numbers will fall eventually and interest will follow.
Also, the first appearance of Flash on the big screen was in Justice League, we all know it was a misery. It left all the bad impressions in the minds of the fans and for the casual viewers, it became a nightmare. Though Snyder Cut did revamp the image massively the audience was extremely limited.
So let it be the campaign failure or the bad image, DC is in a tough situation in India. This movie has all the potential, just look at the cast. The Flash can be a milestone for any superhero universe but the timing can never be more wrong for the release.
