Nagesh Kukunoor faced one of the major downfalls of his career with the release of “Good Luck Sakhi” in 2022.

The film, despite its promising premise and lukewarm performances, failed to make a bond with both critics and audiences.

Reviewers called it predictable and underwhelming, with that despite the strong opening, the film’s weak narrative and editing is the major flaw according to many critics.

Many believed that Kukunoor, who once gave us gems like “Iqbal”, which won the National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues. Films like “Dhanak” had previously proved his finesse by winning international awards.

But after the disappointment of “Good Luck Sakhi”, the question remained.

Could he bounce back?

Many believed he might be fading away from relevance.

And bounce back he did.

With his new web series “The Hunt: The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case” streaming on SonyLIV.

Kukunoor has regained his position as an unique storyteller.

The gripping narrative and deep research behind the series have received appreciation from viewers, as well as from critics.

Handling a serious and sensitive issue like the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case is not childsplay.

But, Kukunoor managed it’s sensitivity very masterfully, by keeping the sensitivity intact and as well as being respectful towards India’s one of the darkest political cases.

He proved that while the theatrical route may have failed him for the time being, the OTT space offers a fresh field for his works to shine.

Kukunoor’s journey once again proved to us that true storytellers never fade away , they simply find new stages to perform.
