SonyLIV brings “The Jengaburu Curse,” arguably the first cli-fi show based in India, which tackles environmental themes.
Starring Faria Abdullah, Nasser, Sudev Nair, and Makrand Deshpande in major roles, this series follows the story of the Jengaburu tribe in the forests of Odisha, where extensive mining has caused significant environmental disturbances. The people there can do nothing but repent.
This reckless mining is related to the presence of a special element found in the area. Meanwhile, a strange disease has spread in that region, resulting in the deaths of the tribal population. There appears to be a connection between these occurrences. It is evident that someone incredibly powerful is in desperate need of that element and has orchestrated this inhumane massacre.
While the story shares similarities with “Aaar ya Paar,” a Hotstar show released in January 2023, we can hope for better storytelling in “The Jengaburu Curse.” SonyLIV has a better track record of producing compelling shows.
Directed by Nila Madhab Panda, “The Jengaburu Curse” is the story of human greed and the exploitation of natural resources. The show will start streaming on 9th August 2023.
