Amazon Prime brings “The Song Of Scorpions”, the last movie of Irrfan. Director Anup Singh’s previous film, ‘Qissa,’ received widespread critical acclaim and recognition at film festivals. However, ‘The Song of Scorpions’ may not achieve the same level of success.
The story revolves around Nooran, a tribal woman with the unique skill of healing scorpion bites using her mother’s (Waheeda Rahman) ancient art. She learns to interpret the scorpions’ song in a victim’s pulse and sings a counter song to heal them. Aadam (Irrfan Khan), a camel trader, is drawn to Nooran’s singing and beauty, but she repeatedly rejects his advances. Eventually, Nooran agrees to marry Aadam, only to discover after the wedding that Aadam’s accomplice had raped her. Fueled by a thirst for revenge, Nooran takes matters into her own hands.
Anup Singh’s takes inspiration from folktales. It captivates with it’s breathtaking cinematography and lingering shots. However, the director’s focus on the climax, where the truth is unveiled and the characters react, seems to overshadow the build-up leading to the end.
Irrfan Khan’s final performance is remarkable, blurring the lines between actor and character. Golshifteh Farahani shines as Nooran, and Waheeda Rahman leaves a lasting impression despite a brief appearance.
The absence of Aadam’s backstory hampers viewer comprehension and assessment, necessitating additional character development by the director.
You can watch “The song of scorpion” on Amazon Prime.
