Dramas and Weekends go hand in hand. And if you belong to the list of uncountable people who love the sense of finding yourself, Manchester by the Sea is just the movie for you.
It is a movie about brutal loss and self-realization. Filmmaker Kenneth Lonergan did a phenomenal job capturing the spectrum of emotions by the cast. And the acting by Casey Affleck deserves separate praise.
This film is about life in the real world, where you are accompanied by pain, misery, and tremendous grief. Lee Chandler lost his brother Joe. While he was coping with the loss, he is informed that his brother made him the sole guardian of his nephew Patrick. Working as a janitor in Boston, he returns to the village. There he not only has to face grief but also has to deal with the painful past.
Not only Casey Affleck but also Hedges gifts us a stunning performance as Patrick. His clueless, and his breakdowns, not only make us think but also makes us feel. That is the main USP of the whole film, the story, and the emotions.
If you critique color palates, this film will be a feast for your eyes. And the cinematography of the film is phenomenal. Jody Lee Lipes did a job to remember. This has an overall melancholy tone but concludes with a positive note. Manchester by the Sea will not just take you to some unknown fishing village, it will make you ride an emotional rollercoaster.
