FIFA World Cup Chaos: Massive Backlash Against OTT

ZEE5 FIFA World Cup 2026 streaming issues

Just days before the FIFA World Cup 2026 began, ZEE5 found itself facing strong criticism from Indian football fans. The controversy started after users noticed changes in the benefits offered under the Rs. 799 three-month FIFA World Cup package. Many subscribers expressed concern over the unexpected revision.

The package was originally promoted with support for streaming on up to three devices. However, users reported that the benefit was briefly changed to allow access on only one device. Fans who had purchased the plan for its multi-device support accused the platform of altering the offer after the sale.

Several customers took to social media to voice their disappointment. Some even warned that they would approach consumer forums, claiming the promotion was misleading. The issue quickly gained attention among football fans preparing for the tournament.

The confusion deepened when users with existing annual ZEE5 subscriptions claimed they could not watch FIFA World Cup matches without buying an additional add-on pack. This created further uncertainty regarding the platform’s subscription policies and access benefits.

Following widespread criticism, ZEE5 restored the original device-sharing benefits. The company also released a statement assuring customers that FIFA World Cup pack subscribers would continue to receive the benefits promised at the time of purchase.

According to the clarification, the Rs. 799 plan supports streaming on up to three screens, while the Rs. 1,699 plan supports access on up to four screens. The announcement helped address some concerns, but the controversy did not end there.

Soon after, technical issues during the opening day of the FIFA World Cup 2026 became a major talking point. Viewers reported server freezes, login failures, lagging streams, fluctuating video quality and interruptions during live matches.

Many subscribers were also disappointed by the absence of the widely promoted 4K streaming feature. Fans had expected a premium viewing experience for one of the world’s biggest sporting events, but several users felt the service failed to meet expectations.

With the FIFA World Cup taking place only once every four years, viewers expect reliable and high-quality coverage. ZEE5 is now facing questions over customer communication, platform stability and its preparedness to handle the massive demand generated by the tournament.
