MeToo Scandal: Music Director Says He’s Embarrassed

Amaal Mallik Anu Malik

Amaal Mallik has finally broken his silence on the MeToo allegations against his uncle, veteran composer Anu Malik.

Yes, Amaal, who is also a music composer, is said to have distanced himself both personally and professionally from Anu. He also revealed that he never had a close relationship with his uncle.

In fact, he admitted to feeling “embarrassed” when the allegations surfaced. Here’s what Amaal specifically said, “If five people speak out against the same person, there must be some truth to it. There’s no smoke without fire.”

Amaal’s remarks have reignited public conversation around the sexual harassment accusations that emerged against Anu Malik. For the unversed, this happened during India’s MeToo movement that took flight after multiple artists came out against certain directors, music composers, actors, and other people in the film industry.

While Anu has denied the claims, multiple women accused him of inappropriate behavior. Amaal clarified that his silence at the time was due to a lack of familial connection, not indifference.

He also revealed that his father, Daboo Malik, once asked him if he feared facing similar accusations, to which Amaal replied confidently that he ensures all his female collaborators feel safe.

Despite maintaining a respectful demeanor in public, Amaal said he shares no personal bond with Anu or his family, and hasn’t interacted with them in years.

Now that the music composer has cleared his stance, we can expect two things: support, for speaking out against something that is wrong, and criticism, for coming out too late.

Meanwhile, it is yet to be seen what Anu Malik has to say about Amaal Mallik’s latest comments.
