Tollywood stars have cheered Ramayana since its first-day shows, with several big names coming forward to praise the film. SS Rajamouli, Mahesh Babu and other Telugu celebrities have openly shared their appreciation. But the same excitement is not quite visible in Bollywood, the industry from which this ambitious film has emerged.
Considering the years of research, hard work and massive investment behind Ramayana, one would expect more of Hindi cinema’s leading stars to acknowledge the effort. A few have done so, but the response has been relatively muted compared to the enthusiasm seen in Tollywood.
Bollywood has not completely ignored the film. Karan Johar, Anupam Kher and a few others have shared their appreciation. However, the absence of reactions from several prominent stars has become noticeable, especially when celebrities from other industries are openly celebrating the film.
There could be several reasons for this difference, and it would be unfair to assume that those who haven’t posted about the film are unimpressed. Celebrities are not obligated to praise every major release. Still, when a film of this scale comes from their own industry, stronger support from its leading names would certainly have been welcome.
Ramayana has been released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada, with IMAX and 3D screenings adding to its reach. Its visuals, VFX and performances have received appreciation from audiences, while the film has also witnessed a strong response at the box office.
Tollywood has made its appreciation quite clear. Whether more of Bollywood’s biggest stars will come forward to acknowledge the film remains to be seen.
