Varun Dhawan returns as Bhediya in Thama, the upcoming horror-comedy from Maddock Films, where he faces off against Ayushmann Khurrana’s vampire character. Unlike his blink-and-miss cameo in Stree 2, this time Varun takes center stage, with a full six-day shoot dedicated to his character’s arc in the crossover saga.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thama explores the iconic werewolf-vampire rivalry. The intense showdown between Varun’s Bhediya and Ayushmann’s vampire avatar was filmed on a massive five-acre set in Mumbai. Packed with heavy VFX and stylized action, the film promises a monster face-off that could rival even Hollywood’s supernatural blockbusters.
The cast also includes Rashmika Mandanna, adding further star power. Sources close to the production confirm that Varun’s Bhediya is not just a guest appearance but a key player in the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe. His battle with Ayushmann’s vampire is expected to be one of the film’s biggest highlights.
Thama is set to release during Diwali 2025, aiming to capitalize on the massive success of Stree 2, which crossed ₹600 crore globally. The film is positioned as the next big step in Maddock’s cinematic universe, known for combining horror with humor and mass appeal.
For Varun Dhawan, Thama could be a much-needed comeback after Bawaal and Baby John underperformed. His expanded role as Bhediya offers both continuity to the franchise and a chance to win back audiences. With a powerful cast, rich VFX, and franchise synergy, Thama is gearing up to be a Diwali blockbuster.
