Which Remake Highest BO Opening

Sitaare Zameen Par was released a few days back and despite all the trolls, the film has been doing some decent business.

Most are aware that it is a remake of the Spanish film Champions which was released in 2018. Aamir also defended his take on working on another remake after the failure of his earlier venture Laal Singh Chaddha.

The actor stated that not many watch Spanish films and that he adapted a good story in Indian context. Looks like he wasn’t wrong completely as Sitaare Zameen Par has made good progress on the third day of its release.

On that note, one thing’s for sure. The pandemic has definitely reshaped theatrical viewing habits, and one trend that hasn’t gone out of style is the remake.

A Salman Khan entertainer that worked well for Day 1 (although not for the remaining days!).

Despite a good opening, it fizzled out post-release.

Laal Singh Chaddha – ₹11.5 Cr
Aamir’s remake of Forrest Gump received a mixed response but made headlines.

Baby John – ₹10.5 Cr
The action-heavy Tamil-to-Hindi remake impressed frontbenchers but couldn’t do much later.

Vikram Vedha – ₹10.29 Cr
Though critically praised, it didn’t explode at the box office.

Bholaa – ₹10.12 Cr
Ajay Devgn’s action-packed remake had a decent start but could not match up with the business made by the original Tamil thriller.

Sitaare Zameen Par – ₹11.5 Cr
With a soft promotional run and a deeply emotional theme, it managed to match the Day 1 numbers of Laal Singh Chaddha.




Meanwhile, it can be said that Sitaare Zameen Par signals that there’s still room at the box office for soul-stirring, content-driven remakes. Quiet, but promising, as said by Aamir Khan on several occasions.
