Exciting: Sexy B-Grade Horror Classics Revived

Veerana Sohum Shah

Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s, the films of Ramsay Brothers had sufficient ingredients to scare the audiences. While those films were discontinued at one point, it seems like the old days are expected to come back.

Actor and producer Sohum Shah has recently obtained the rights to three classic films of the Ramsay Brothers, including Veerana, Purana Mandir, and Purani Haveli.

Sohum Shah is planning to recreate these films for today’s audience and the plans are already being executed, which means that it will take just a few years.

Sohum’s decision is undoubtedly good news for Bollywood, specifically after the success of Munjya, Stree 2, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 this year.

While Dinesh Vijan is already planning multiple installments of the Maddock Supernatural Universe, it seems like he might face heavy competition in the future.

At a time when Dinesh’s franchise is focusing on a mixture of horror and comedy, someone needs to emphasize serious horror like we have seen many years ago in films like Haunted, 1920, and Raaz.

The best part of Ramsay’s horror films was that the blending of scary moments, the makeup of the ghosts and monsters, and some glamorous scenes were able to pull a large number of audiences, specifically on single screens.

There was a time when the above-mentioned elements were always present in Vikram Bhatt’s films. Unfortunately, the popular director’s films lack the entertaining factors now.

Considering Sohum’s expertise in bringing a cult horror film like Tumbbad, it seems like audiences can get prepared to enter a new realm of horror.

However, it remains to be seen how long Sohum will take to recreate the classics and bring them to the big screen. Another question that remains is Sohum’s decision to add sex and glamour like Ramsay Brothers did in their original works.
