Trailer Talk: Terrifying Plot but VFX Fail?

Maa Trailer Review

The trailer of Kajol’s upcoming film Maa was released on May 29, 2025. Directed by Vishal Furia, the trailer manages to leave an impact despite the poor VFX in certain portions.

The latest glimpse starts with a shocking moment where Kajol and her daughter are traveling somewhere. The latter complains of stomach pain when we witness a girl hanging upside down on a tree and attacking Kajol’s car by appearing out of nowhere.

The duo arrives at an unknown location, where Kajol tells her daughter not to leave the room alone.

However, the spooky moments start appearing as Kajol’s daughter learns about a tree that is said to be possessed by a demon, and that the place they are living in has a history of girls being reported missing for a long time.

In between all these, the devil living in the tree is introduced, with long hands and capturing girls for some reason. The mystery behind the tree and the missing girls will be revealed when the film arrives in theatres on June 27, 2025.

Moreover, Kajol’s daughter is expected to be targeted in some way, and it will be interesting to see what a mother will do to save her child.

Certain portions of the trailer look appealing, with a few jump scares. The sequences of girls being pulled away by the tree branches also look interesting. However, the VFX could have been improved in those scenes. But there is a possibility that a low budget did not allow the director to work on the same.

The same issue happens in a scene where a person is set on fire, which looks artificial. A few other sequences also give you the same feeling, specifically the ones featuring the tree branches. On the other hand, things might look different for these sequences when they appear on the big screen.

Kajol is doing a comeback after a long time, and audiences will possibly get to see an intense side of the actress this time. However, the overall events in the trailer also resemble the things we have seen in Chhorii and Chhorii 2, also directed by Vishal Furia.

Maa also features a story where girls are being targeted for some reason. But if the makers are going forward with the same storyline with a new approach, it is expected to leave an impression on the audience.

Let’s wait and see if a horror film with a female lead will leave a big impact on the box office. Moreover, the big question right now is whether it will lead to another franchise.
