Saiyaara Faces Outrage: K-Drama Fans Furious?

Saiyaara Copied Korean Film

Mohit Suri’s latest romantic drama Saiyaara, featuring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has made a strong debut at the box office with glowing reviews.

But just days into its release, a few eagle-eyed people on Reddit are drawing comparisons between the film and a Korean film named A Moment to Remember.

Mohit Suri is already known for adapting South Korean thrillers for his earlier films like Murder 2, Awarapan, and Ek Villain. Now, once again, he is under the scanner for Saiyaara’s similarity to a Korean film.

For the unversed, A Moment to Remember revolves around a woman battling early-onset Alzheimer’s and her crumbling relationship. Saiyaara, on the other hand, reimagines this tragedy with a youthful musical spin, introducing conflict before marriage and setting it in a vibrant, urban world.

Reddit users have also highlighted other overlapping plot points like memory loss, an abandoned relationship, mistaken identity, emotional letters, and a heartbreaking climax in a care home.

“It’s a scene-by-scene copy,” one user claimed. Others, however, argue that Alzheimer’s as a plot device isn’t exclusive and many love stories explore similar arcs.

Regardless of the inspiration, Saiyaara seems to be resonating with audiences. Produced by Yash Raj Films, the movie captures a stirring romance between a struggling musician and an aspiring journalist. It has already been declared a hit within just a day of its release.
