Paresh Rawal recently came into the headlines when he made some claims about OMG 2. The veteran actor said in an interview that the idea behind the sequel was created by him and director Amit Rai. However, he did not receive any credit for the story and concept.
Producer Ashwin Varde has now reacted a day after the interview video went viral, saying that the claims of Paresh Rawal are false. He then revealed his side of the story, saying that Amit Rai’s name was recommended to him by actor Pavan Malhotra.
Ashwin said that he and Amit became close friends when they first met. Notably, Amit narrated the concept one day, and it eventually got made in the form of OMG 2. Ashwin stated that the story initially looked similar to the first film, and then Amit told him that he wrote it in the same format because Paresh asked him to stay faithful to the previous installment. Paresh and Amit worked together on Road To Sangam in the past.
However, Ashwin wanted Akshay Kumar’s approval before going ahead with the sequel since the IP rights were with the actor. When Amit spoke to Paresh about it, Paresh told him that he would be the writer and director of the film. Amit completed the script, and Ashwin realized that Paresh was attempting to make a version of OMG under a different title.
Ashwin described Paresh’s behaviour as stealing. He addressed the actor’s comments in the recent interview, saying that while Paresh claimed that many actors turned down the script, they did it because OMG is Akshay’s film. Ashwin’s company eventually acquired the script, which was registered under Amit’s name.
Ashwin recalled meeting Paresh on multiple occasions for the sequel. However, the actor’s reactions hinted that he did not want Akshay Kumar in the film for unknown reasons. Ashwin said that even Akshay spoke to Paresh, and while things did not materialize for a long time, they decided to move on.
Ashwin clarified that Paresh received credit as a producer in the sequel despite the fact that he did not contribute, and the actor instead gave the credit to his wife, Swaroop. Ashwin claimed that Paresh also received some money for OMG 2 and it is something that Paresh did not mention in the interview.
Ashwin’s interview has now raised a lot of questions. While Paresh was absent from the film, many people claimed that after Ashwin’s conversation, it was seemingly confirmed that Paresh might have done something wrong. Meanwhile, Paresh has maintained silence on the matter. Let’s wait and see how he is going to respond.
