After remaining unreleased for nearly four years, Pooja Meri Jaan, starring Mrunal Thakur and Huma Qureshi, has finally found a home on ZEE5. The psychological thriller was completed years ago but got delayed after changes in the OTT market. Now, ZEE5 has included the film in its upcoming slate, although the release date has not been announced yet.
Mrunal Thakur has been going through a tough phase in her career. Her recent Hindi films have failed at the box office. Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai was a big flop, while Do Deewane Seher Mein and Son of Sardaar 2 also failed to attract audiences. Even her Telugu film Dacoit was only an average success at the box office and did not become the big success many expected.
Because of this, Mrunal badly needs a comeback.
Pooja Meri Jaan could give her that chance. Unlike her recent commercial films, this is a psychological thriller based on stalking and cybercrime. It gives Mrunal a chance to showcase her acting skills in a performance-driven role.
Director Navjot Gulati had earlier spoken about how the long delay affected both his career and personal life. He claimed the film got stuck because of a pricing dispute after its planned OTT release was cancelled. He also revealed that his late father spent his final months asking when the film would finally be released, highlighting the emotional pain caused by the delay.
Now, with ZEE5 finally releasing the film, Pooja Meri Jaan has another chance to reach audiences.
Whether it becomes a big OTT hit is still uncertain but some good reviews and positive word of mouth could give Mrunal something she needs right now: strong critical appreciation and a confidence boost after a series of disappointing theatrical releases.
