Priyadarshan is on a full comedy streak right now and is working on several projects in the genre. After Hera Pheri 3 and Bhool Bangla, he is now preparing the sequel to Bhoot Police. Recent reports confirm that Bhoot Police 2 will be directed by him.
The first film, released in 2021 on Disney+ Hotstar, was directed by Pawan Kripalani and starred Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam. For part two, the makers want a fresh approach with new, established actors. They feel Priyadarshan’s comic sense fits the franchise better.
The script work is in progress. Producers Ramesh Taurani and Akshai Puri are backing the project again, and casting has started. Some fans are excited because they found the first film entertaining, while others wonder why a sequel is needed since the original did not do well in theatres.
Fans also point out that Priyadarshan once said he would never make sequels. Now he seems open to directing sequels he was not part of earlier. Meanwhile, his film Bhooth Bangla with Akshay Kumar is also a horror-comedy, showing that he is diving deeper into the space.
Many are confused about why he chose Bhoot Police 2 before Hera Pheri 3, which has been in discussion for years. With the horror-comedy trend rising again after Maddock Films revived the genre, Priyadarshan appears ready to explore it fully. Fans now hope both his upcoming films stand out and do not end up like other forgettable entries.
