The ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘PK’ duo are back to create something big with this ambitious project, promising a grand telling of the birth of Indian cinema.

What’s exciting is the level of realism they are aiming for—Aamir will be training hard and getting dialect lessons, while a Los Angeles-based VFX firm will recreate the 1900s with AI precision.

The screenplay by Hirani, Abhijat Joshi and the Bharadwaj pair is supplemented by stories from Phalke’s own grandson, so it’s historically accurate and emotionally resonant.

But the real challenge for Hirani and Aamir will be to match the quirky humor of Paresh Mokashi’s Marathi film ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’ (2010) which set the bar high for Phalke biopics.

On the plus side, early whispers suggest this project has the Hirani warmth and wit that many felt was missing in ‘Dunki’.

If they can balance respect with entertainment, this could be a landmark film for Indian cinema. Now we wait and see what this dream project has in store.
